Hike Summary: | THis is a long and difficult hike, which takes you to the very heart of the Gila Wilderness. During multiple trips to the Gila, I have never seen anyone else at White Creek Flat. Solitude is the watchword. The trail system is very rough, and at times totally disappears, and several long stretches are actually walking waist deep in the river itself. Elk, deer, turkey, and the Mexican Grey Wolf abound. Trout fishing opportunities are around every corner. Watch trail signs very carefully, and don't count on the listed mileage being correct. Water is plentiful, and campsites are available at regular intervals. |
