Hike Summary: This is one of the most colorful hikes in southern New Mexico. Mineral Creek takes its name from the fact that there are so many different types of rock and minerals in that one canyon. Photos don't do it justice, but the creekbed looks like a candy store exploded. Simply a riot of colors. Lots of mining relics give the hiker something to look at and explore, and plenty of places to shelter out of the weather. The creek is never dry, and is fairly wide but normally very shallow, about 1 foot or so. Mining in the late 1800's ruined the fishing here, but is a medium distance hike without too much altitude gain, but with a steady water supply and lots to see.
