| Hike Summary: | The bottom part of this trail is adjacent to Avalanche Creek and the beautiful gorge it has carved in the rock. There are a few good places to get to the edge and look right down into this narrow gorge. The lower mile is a bit more steep as you climb most of the 500' to the lakeshore. The second mile is a gentle grade through the woods. Avalanche Lake is a lovely lake that is just far enough off the boardwalk to keep the crowd down. It is probably the easiest hike for little children to enjoy the serenity that comes from the backcountry without the noise and crowds of the more heavily traveled areas of the national park. |
