Biography: I am a retired Air Force NCO that first became interested in hiking when I was stationed in Germany in the late 1960's. After retirement, I was looking for something interesting to keep me in shape. I was lucky enough to meet several local hikers younger than I who were kind and patient enough to get me into the sport. I have made over a dozen hikes in the last five years, and am planning a trip across the Gila Wilderness in the Spring of 2006.
My Best Hike: 3 Rivers Canyon - White Mountain Wilderness
Best Hike Description: I had no idea that someplace so green and with so much water existed in arid southern New Mexico. Thaks to Oshow and Mikester for breaking me in right.
My Worst Hike: Cornudas Mountain - southern New Mexico
Worst Hike Description: I knew just enough to get myself in trouble, and I was lucky to get out. Ran out of water on the trip, and barely made it to a ranch house. The people were very friendly and helpful, and didn't even call me a dumb s#@t!
A Memorable Trail Moment: Sunrise of Diamond Peak in the White Mountain Wilderness. It reminded me of sunrise in Southeast Asia, but more colorful.
Dumbest Trail Move: Taking only 1 liter of water on the Cornudas Mountain trip.
Trails That I Want To Hike: Gila Wilderness and the New Mexico section of the Continental Divide Trail.
