My Best Hike: | Fork Mountain/Chatooga River Trail |
Best Hike Description: | This hike was in Oct. 2008, weather was great, night temps a little "brisk". Perfect campfire weather. Camping and listening to the river noises and all the stresses of life just fade a-w-a-a-y... |
My Worst Hike: | Foothills Trail |
Worst Hike Description: | Let me make this clear. I love the Foothills Trail. But on this weekend, the plan was to start at the fish hatchery and hike down to the Chatooga River and camp. Next day, come out at Burrell's Ford. The forecast called for scattered thunderstorms. It was pouring rain when we left home. It was pouring when we got to the trailhead. It poured during the entire hike down to the river. Stopped long enough to cook and eat supper and started up again. It was pouring the next morning and all the way out to the cars. |
A Memorable Trail Moment: | Hiking the Pink Beds Trail near Brevard NC. In the middle of the day, we had a small bear run across the trail about 50 ft in front of us. By the time we got up to where he crossed the trail, he was out of sight. After that, we imagined he was following us, just waiting to pick off any slackers. |
Dumbest Trail Move: | An 8 lb. tent |
Trails That I Want To Hike: | The Foothills Trail, from one end to the other, Mt. LeConte, and the AT are my short list. |
