Biography: I've hiked most of the AT from VA south, most of the trails in the two Carolinas and Georgia, the Cascades along the OR/WA border, Central PA in Happy Valley, the Scottish Highlands along the West Higland Way, and now I look for places in Central American countries where I also go to surf.
My Best Hike: Hood River, OR/Columbia River Gorge - July 1999
Best Hike Description: I actually went to Hood River to windsurf the Columbia River and ended up hiking trails in the area all week instead. I think I actually windsurfed only 2 or 3 sessions, and spent the rest of my week hiking all over that area.
My Worst Hike: The Old Hot Springs (North) AT Trail
Worst Hike Description: It's been a lo-o-ong time, but the AT out of Hot Springs, NC used to go straight up for over a mile, and it was always a brutal climb with the pack "first day out" full. I think since then, it has been re-routed into switchbacks. .........gawd I hope so.
A Memorable Trail Moment: Sunrise from the summit of Volcan Baru, Panama
Dumbest Trail Move: Remember the old peanut butter and jelly plastic tubes that we used to use to carry PB&J with us for the "first" lunch? I consider myself a pretty hardy person, but I never could make myself eat what came out of those things.
Trails That I Want To Hike: 1. Cerra Punta to Caribbean Sea through the La Amistead World Heritage Site 2. Ben Nevis, Glencoe, Scotland
