Biography: To sum it up, I'm an 'outdoorsmen' stuck in an office job. LOL!! I guess that's a good thing since it helps to keep me balanced.

My first impulse of wanting to get into backpacking was back in school when I was about 13 and we took a field trip to Table Rock, SC. The trailhead showed a longer route in the area and described it as a 5-7 day route. I remember saying that I'd love to do 'that' one day! Not specifically that trail but the actual experience of strapping a backpack on and heading out into the woods/mountains.

Well in 2003 the urge was re-kindled thnx in part to another newfound hobby at the time. I got interested into custom and modified flashlights, i know weird right? Well I had acquired all of these new and neat flashlights and wanted to use them and what better way than to go night hiking........ better yet night hiking with camping combined. So on Halloween of 2003 IT began! The obsession! My first trip was on the LakeShore Trail in GSMNP..........
My Best Hike: Shining Rock
Best Hike Description: Whether it be via the Art Loeb from boyscout camp or from Black Balsam parking area, or the steep climb up the Shining Creek trail, Flower Gap and our new little private campsite make it all worth it!!!
My Worst Hike: LakeShore Trail.....but wait it was still a favorite!
Worst Hike Description: This was my first backpacking trip and a BIG learning experience! Started in at midnight the first night and overshot our first planned campsite. Ended up having to pitch tent on the trail after hiking almost non-stop until 5 A.M.!! Then realized the next day that we weren't gonna be able to make our complete planned loop. So we just pushed onto campsite #81 and starting brainstorming what-to-do. We decided to head to the Hazel Creek boat droo-off the next day and pray for someone to pull up and take us to the marina on Lake Fontana. We did luck out but still had to pay someone $55 to shuttle us back to our car on Lakeshore Drive. FuN Fun FuN!!!
A Memorable Trail Moment: Laying out under a tarp on Flower Gap and watching shooting stars Christmas '03
Dumbest Trail Move: Getting stuck in mud up to my knees for 20+ minutes at the end of my first backpacking trip at the Hazel Creek boat landing
Trails That I Want To Hike: PCT/John Muir/Sierra Nevadas Section Hike the AT New Zealand
