Hike Summary: | This hike begins at the Kipahulu Visitor Center in Haleakala National Park. It starts out following the Kuloa Point Loop Trail in a counterclockwise direction, going along Kuloa Point and the Seven Sacred Pools. At the end of the small loop, the trail hooks up with the Pipiwai Trail to the right. The Pipiwai Trail follows the stream that forms Ohe’o Gulch, and takes you past the Falls at Makahiku and onward to Waimoku Falls. Hikers can swim in several of the pools located in the Seven Sacred Pools area, and are treated to incredibly scenic views of both the ocean and the series of pools and falls perched above the ocean. The hike onward from the Seven Sacred Pools passes a couple ancient looking banyan trees, which make for some great photo ops. The trail up the Ohe’o Gulch provides some spectacular views of the Falls at Makahiku. |
