Hike Summary: | Hike can be completed both ways, depending on where you arrive on the island, and you don't have to start hiking as soon as you get on the ground. Camping is available at both Windigo and Rock Harbor. Once on the trail, you will experience many wonders. Moose sightings are nearly guaranteed, and the chance of sighting a wolf is always present. The Greenstone Ridge trail is mostly wooded, yet there are numerous vistas along it's path. You will also enjoy the view from atop Mount Franklin. There are six backcountry campsites between the campgrounds at Rock Harbor and Windigo. All require a short side trip to get to. Purchasing a map and planning your hike ahead of time is a must. Also, be prepared to pay the $4 per person per day fee. Visit the NPS website for details. |
