Hike Summary: | This was a short hike to the Davenport Gap Shelter, but was a trail that was all uphill, and was filled with many exposted tree roots. The day we make the trek was after a rain storm, and the trail was filled with many slippery damp leaves, making the chance of slipping and injury a concern. The shelter has a stone fire place, and is enclosed in the front with a wire barrier to bar bear intrusions. There is a spring, but the water must be filtered and boiled before use. Firewood in the immediate area is sparse. My two sons hiked back to the parking area, and carried in two loads of cut firewood. |
