Hike Summary: We base camped with our Boy Scout Troop in the Lower Cove Creek Camping Area and hiked both the Daniel Ridge and Caney Bottom Loop.
You can access both trails from the campsite.
We did the Daniel Ridge first. It is a fairly easy trail. Just a nice hike in the forest. You’ll cross a small creek several times and see one good waterfall. It was pretty high but there wasn’t a lot of water. The trail is supposed to be 5 miles, my GPS said 3.8.
Next we hiked the Caney Bottom Loop. The southern tip of the loop is at the campsite. The east leg of the loop is for hikers only. The western leg allows mountain bikers as well. The major attraction of this trail is the Cove Creek Waterfall. You can get there from the western leg. The trail to the falls is not marked. When you hear it, start looking for a path.
This is a great group camp area.
Football field size area with a vault toilet, pump for water, lantern stands, fire ring, and picnic tables.
There is also the Cove Creek with a ten foot waterslide to play in.

You can make reservations on-line here.
