Directions: | (Burrell’s Ford Parking Area) - From US 76/US 441 in Clayton, GA (at Wendy’s), take a right onto Rickman Road for 0.5 miles to Warwoman Road. Turn right onto Warwoman Road and head 14 miles to State Route GA 28. Take a right onto GA 28 and follow it for 1.8 miles to U.S. Forest Service Road 646 (which is also known as Burrells Ford Road). Follow USFS 646 for 9.4 miles to the Burrell Ford Parking Area. USFS 646 will turn to gravel for a majority of this drive. In South Carolina this road becomes U.S. Forest Road 708. (Cheohee Road - SC 107) – From Oconee State Park, follow SC 107 North for 3.7 miles to Cheohee Road (also known as U.S. Forest Road 710). There is a designated parking area 600’ down the gravel road on the right. |

Hike Summary: | The Chattooga River Trail is a forty mile route that borders the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia and follows the banks of the Chattoga National Wild And Scenic River from Burrell's Ford to US 76. This hike to Salt Trough Ford is a moderate route that follows the river southbound from the Burrell's Ford Parking Area and intersects with the Bartram Trail at Lick Log Creek. The route then follows the Foothills Trail to a small parking area on SC 107. There are some nice campsites along the river, particularly in the Salt Trough Ford and Lick Log Creek areas. (Note: The Chattooga River and Foothills Trails intersects with the Bartram Trail at Lick Log Creek.). |
