Returning to this site after a long hiatus. I now live in Seattle and am going to be exploring there. I am leaving my previous profile info intact to preserve the essence of my earlier contributions. I hike primarily in the Angeles National Forest. Although I do hike elsewhere, I am primarily concentrating on documenting Local Area hikes. I picked up John W. Robinson's "Trails of the Angeles" about a year ago and have really "re-discovered" the Angeles. There is a lot more than the crowded campgrounds and picnic areas found in the front-range. I hope by documenting some of my adventures, people in the L.A. area will be compelled to enjoy the treasures of ANF. Many hikes I do there have little or no traffic. The ecological diversity is outstanding ranging from pine forests to riparian canyon streambeds to desert to treeless peaks above 10,000'. I Highly recommend Robinson's book to anyone interested in the ANF. There are many other suitable guides as well including numerous guides by Jerry Schad. In addition to Angeles hikes I will periodically add some of the better hikes from San Bernadino National Forest, as well as some planned Joshua Tree National Park hikes. As winter approaches I will be doing more desert and front-range hikes. Though I am concentrating mostly on hikes local to the LA area, I have hiked extensively in Joshua Tree National park (Ryan Mountain, and Key's View among those) Catalina Island, Yermo/Calico, and the Southern Sierras. Hikes in those regions tend to be well documented so as this site becomes more and more visited, I expect to see some of those from other hikers. I might possibly add a few of my favorites if this turns out not to be the case.
