Man, this guy is hardcore, but he also got lucky. The Gila is my stomping grounds, and it can be bad news. Snow can come quickly, and storms can grow into something dangerous before you know it. We got snowed on in the Gila in June!

The CDT is worth it, but be careful.

I’m not going anywhere. Just getting back into packing, after being mostly inactive for the past couple of years. You were my first outdoor site, you are just a regular guy, and I’ll stay where I’m welcome and wanted.

I do carry a pistol on every hike, for probably 25 years now. I have only had to use it once, but I would probably not be posting here if I had not been carrying. I know it sometimes makes others hikers nervous, but bad things happen to nice people.

While I love every aspect of backpacking, I have come to a point in my life when it is about my limits. How far can I make it in a day, while still enjoying the sights.

The CDT rules. It is truly the wilderness, not all marked, and lightly populated. Start the hike with huevos rancheros in Mexico and finish it with pu=outine and a Molson in Canada.
