Looking forward to the trip reports.
Just finished up this three day trip this past week…
Great Smoky Mountains National Park – Smokemont Campground to Appalachian Trail and Back
My dog is a runner so I have to keep him on a leash. If I didn’t, he would be long gone. If he gets away at home, he might return after several hours, or worst case, the next day, but I can’t chance that when I’m on the move and hours from home.
At night, I keep him in the vestibule, but still have to tie his leash off to something.
The fall foliage should be at at peak between mid-September and early October….
I use dryer lint and a lighter.
I never figured out the species. As a matter of fact, I can’t even pinpoint the exact time when I got the bite, only when I first noticed it. Apparently, this isn’t uncommon, and as near as I can tell, the only way to accurately determine the species is to catch the assailant in the act.
The only reason I think it might have been a Hobo spider rather than a Brown Recluse is because they appear to be more prevalent in the northwest United States. However, their bites appear to exhibit the same characteristics.
The best information I could find was on the following website…
Its definitely out on DVD, and I believe it has been on the Discovery Channel a couple of times. You might want to check their website to see if its going to be playing again.
Looks like Redford is going to move forward without Newman…

Make sure you check out the back and forth comments between “Weicher” and “dahluzz” at the bottom of the article. They are kind of commical.
Doesn’t look good for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid…

I think Stagefright is right. It’s time to move on, and cast the guy from King of Queens as Katz. It would be a perfect fit.

Shooter,
The main reason I keep checking in on a regular basis is to see what new hikes and new posts have been added. In other words, I don’t really use the site to go back and research potential hiking areas, backpacking trips, or gear reviews, or anything like that. I’m not saying that other people don’t do that, or that it wouldn’t be a useful tool for people to be able to search hikes by zip code, it’s just that that is not my main attraction to the site. I just like reading about where people have been going, and seeing what the current chatter is at the time. Therefore, in my mind, anything you could do to increase the number of new hikes or posts being added to the site would be beneficial.
Issuing a few points for posts made to the forums, as TTF has suggested, might spur more participation on this front. However, I wouldn’t be too generous, as this might beget a bunch of non wanted whimsical posts by those people just trying to earn points.
Another suggestion that I think might help encourage some more participation from users, would be to add a section where members can write, and post, outdoor adventure stories similar to the “Trail Tales”
I use an aluminum 9-cup Coleman percolator. Its a little bulky, but fairly lightweight (less than 16 oz.), and fairly inexpensive. I’ve never tried a press, but can’t imagine anything comparing to a good cup of percolator coffee on a crisp morning. Not to mention you get several cups with each brew as opposed to just one or two.
