    Why Is The Kakapo Bird Endangered? The kakapo (Strigops habroptilus), also known as the owl parrot, is one of the world’s rarest and most unique birds. Native to New Zealand, the kakapo is a large, flightless, nocturnal parrot known for its green plumage, strong scent, and ground-dwelling lifestyle. Once widespread, its population declined drastically due to habitat loss and the introduction of predators like cats and stoats.
