My dad’s computer got hit with ransomware last year, and that whole mess made me realize how much malware has changed. I remember when it was mostly annoying popups, but now it’s straight-up extortion. Does anyone else follow the history of malware? It’s crazy how it’s gone from silly viruses to stuff that shuts down hospitals.

Yeah, it’s wild to see how malware’s evolved. I remember those early days too—funny popups, weird toolbars, nothing like today’s attacks. Ransomware and things like advanced phishing really changed the game. If you want to dig deeper, cybersecurity has some breakdowns of major malware trends and how they’ve impacted people and companies. The biggest thing I’ve learned is that even basic defenses (like backups and software updates) can help, but attackers keep finding new ways in. I try to keep my own setup as clean as possible, and never open anything I’m not expecting.

You can’t go anywhere online these days without hearing about new malware. Even my work keeps sending out warnings. I feel like it’s a full-time job just staying ahead of the threats now.
