I plan to start a thru-hike next week from Springer Mt. Can anyone suggest a way to get there from Atlanta? Also, I heard the Approach Trail is a bitch, is it easy to get to the forest road 0.9 miles from the summit? Thanks.

The USFS 42 (0.9 miles from Springer) is definitely accessible via car, and someone can get you there. Check the ATC page for a list of shuttles:

The Approach Trail is definitely tough. You can also go in to Nimblewill Gap which is about two miles south of Springer. Get the Georgia guidebook from the ATC for weekend hikes or for thru-hikes check out the ATC Companion or Thru-Hiker’s Handbook.

    Hi!
I am kinda new to GA hiking. How do I find out how to get to FS 42 from Jasper? I’ve found maps of the forest roads that do not include the highways or trails. Would like to day hike some of the AT from Springer without having to do the approach trail from the Falls.

Recomendations of the best, most complete maps will be helpful too!
