Gotta see it. What’s the release date on the movie?? It says 9/21 on the website but it doesn’t seem to be showing anywhere that I can tell. http://www.intothewild.com

A long preview (and music video) of the movie at You Tube:

Many other clips on You Tube. This guy took his four wheeler and dog to the bus:

A said tale indeed. I feel most sorry for his sister who seemed to have a close relationship with him.

20/20 had a thirty minute show on this topic last night. What is troubling is that there are apparently hundreds of McCandless wanna bees out there that are racing off into the wilderness completely unprepared. They interviewed this guy that basically duplicated McCandless’s equipment and food supplies (which consisted of 10 pounds of rice) and hiked out to the bus and “Into The Wild”. The genius has headed out at the beginning of winter when foraging for food gets more difficult and game starts to hibernate. At least McCandless had the sense to go in the summer.

Saw the movie this week. I have to say that it was pretty powerful. In some ways, you have to admire McCandless. It takes courage to do what he did – live hand-to-mouth, and put yourself on the streets depending largely on total strangers that may not have your best interests at heart.

Went to the movie last night. The vibe is much more dramatic than the book, but it stayed true to Krakauer’s work. Overally, I thought Sean Penn did a good job telling the story.

Skip it. If you want to see the real deal check out the self made movie about Dick Pronneke. This is a guy who not only went into the Alaska wilderness but he survived it as well for many years.

This isn’t any Hollywierd hype and doesn’t have self-important actors. Filmed in the days when you still had to wind the cameras up. Buy it on DVD and watch it more than once. I learned a lot of things just from watching it..

truly a candidate for a the darwin award…the world is full of ’em…this is just a new twist on an old story: MAN . vs NATURE, a common literery theme…let penn the commie mislead and deceive…the FACT remains that this clown had NO BUSINESS in the wilderness of Alaska…and now he’s DEAD, why? because he was STUPID…

McCandless gets a bad rap. Hell, all the kid did was live life to the max. It’s what drove him. What’s wrong with that? The fact that he died was an unexpected consequence, but everything I’ve read about the guy makes me think he knew it was part of the risk and I believe he accepted that.

Saw it, and frankly .. I liked the book much better than the movie.

Has anyone seen a release date for the DVD? It was never shown in my area and I’m also curious to see some behind the scenes interviews from Sean Penn, etc.
