Central Vermont land parcel gets federal protection
Killington, Vermont – March 30, 2011
A big chunk of land along the Appalachian Trail in Killington will soon be federally protected.
The Conservation Fund is transferring 630 acres of property that it bought in 2010 to the National Park Service. The land will link the Les Newell Wildlife Management Area with several privately owned conservation lands, creating a protected area of more than 9,000 acres.
The lands will be open to hiking, hunting, fishing and other non-motorized recreational use.
