Trip Report: This is the backpacking trip where I earned my trail name. We started the hike at Burrells Ford and broke for lunch at Big Bend. We had two dogs with us on this trip. One was with a guy from GA and his dog just went where it wanted to. The second was an English Spaniel (Angus) that belonged to a regular member of the club. When we were breaking up for lunch, somehow Angus got to close to the edge and fell in at Big Bend! This is an enormous and very dangerous rapid. Angus owner and another friend took off down the river. Fortunately, Angus got hung up in an eddie and was no longer going down river. The rock at the eddie was a drop off so he couldn't climb up on it. Angus was starting to drown he was so exhausted. By now I am on the cliff over looking the two men and the dog. The owner jumped in the frigid water to save his dog. He was able to give him the boost he needed for the second friend to grab him and pull him out of the water. But now the dogs owner is in the water and basically in the same situation the dog was he can't get any footing. I needed a rope, I needed something NOW. I swiftly took off my bra and threw it to the rescuer below. They could hear the threads popping but it held together and the man was safely pulled out of the river. Trail name - Quick Draw McBra
