Trip Report: | 4/11/04 (Sunday): It rained most of the night but only sporadically and the storm was nothing major (like we’ve had here in years past.) I got up around 9am and cooked some oatmeal and made hot chocolate. Night Rider was packed up and on the trail by 9:30am and the Earthlink guy took off about the same time he did. The Helmet, Doughgirl and I were hiking by 10pm and it only took us an hour to make it back to the truck with an easier downhill hike today. We ran in to the Springer Mountain caretaker around Black Mountain, and found out that they plan to rebuild Stover Creek shelter in the next year. We hiked into Nimblewill Gap by 11pm and stopped in Dawsonville at Subway for lunch this afternoon. Today is Easter Sunday, and the place was serving up some sandwiches to people that had come directly from church. The Helmet, Doughgirl and I made it back to Atlanta by 2pm and I spent the next hour unloading and hanging up my wet trail gear. |
