Trip Report: Did a quick overnight from Milepost 5 Trailhead to camp at the lake and back to Milepost 5. 2500 feet in 7 miles (one way) is not too bad and the range of habitat quite amazing. From rich NW type of thick conifer forest to tundra type conditions at the frozen lake. Although mostly cloudy near the lake, you could see the ocean near Seward clearly nearly all the way to the lake. Breathtaking views and the continuous sound of unseen water in the gorge make this a very memorable hike if you don't have much time.
<b>Lost Lake Gorge</b><br> Above the treeline traveling from Seward to Lost Lake, looking west from the Lost Lake Trail. We never saw the bottom of the gorge, but you could hear the water the entire hike.
<b>Resting</b><br> Taking a breather and cooling off in the 40 degree air while taking in the sights.
<b>Lost Lake</b><br> Notice that the lake is still mostly frozen at the beginning of July.
<b>Crossing the outflow</b><br> Here I am crossing the outflow of Lost Lake to check out potential tent sites.
<b>Seward</b><br> Looking back toward Seward (you can barely see the town in the distance) and Resurrection Bay. If you hike in from Seward, don't forget to catch the scenery behind you on the way up. It may be cloudy the next day.

Wow!!! I hiked to Lost Lake in August during a trip to Seward and had no idea there was that much snow left in July. Amazing. We stayed in a cabin a short distance from the lake – very fun. I highly recommend this trip.
