Did a quick overnight from Milepost 5 Trailhead to camp at the lake and back to Milepost 5. 2500 feet in 7 miles (one way) is not too bad and the range of habitat quite amazing. From rich NW type of thick conifer forest to tundra type conditions at the frozen lake. Although mostly cloudy near the lake, you could see the ocean near Seward clearly nearly all the way to the lake. Breathtaking views and the continuous sound of unseen water in the gorge make this a very memorable hike if you don't have much time. |

Wow!!! I hiked to Lost Lake in August during a trip to Seward and had no idea there was that much snow left in July. Amazing. We stayed in a cabin a short distance from the lake – very fun. I highly recommend this trip.
