Hike Summary: | This was my first hike in Acadia. My friend and I were vacationing in the area and thought we'd do a "quick walk" of two miles (because really, two miles isn't a long walk). I don't know what I know now: Acadia looks much more tame from the loop road than it actually is. We both were in flip-flops (and not terribly sturdy ones; I think one of hers actually broke on this hike... it was quite the experience), but figured that the trail was "easy" so we should be fine. Well, we were fine, but it would have been a LOT better with things like water and backpacks and actual shoes. I was picturing a sort of dirt path through the woods, which it was, sort of, but there were scrambles over rocks and up inclines. I think I was holding my brand new iPhone in my hand the whole way. We pretty much way underestimated this trail. It all turned out ok, but it was a lesson in not taking off on a trail without knowing what you're getting into. |
