Hike Summary: Nice short day hike , fairly steep on the way up and as you might guess fairly steeply downhill on the return. It is a Rocky but well maintained trail. after about 3/4 mile you will cross the Benton Mackaye Trail peeling off to the left. There is a Shelter with a a privy and a water source (spring) near the top. after about a mile you reach the top of Sringer Mountain at 3700 feet and the End/Beginning of the Appalachian Trail. There are two markers built into rocks at this point marking the spot and the view looking Southwest into the Etowah River Valley is spectacular. This also marks the end of the applalachian approach trail which begins 8.3 miles Southeast at Amacalola Falls. If you want a longer hike you can take on all or part of this beautiful trail.
