Hike Summary: | This trail meanders through the hills beside the Chattooga Wild and Scenic River, which forms the boundary between Georgia and South Carolina. I actually only did the first ten mile section, starting at the trailhead by the river and ending at Warwoman Road. There is technically another ten mile section (for 20 total miles) that uses part of the Bartram Trail and continues into North Carolina. This is a nice hike, with no big climbs to speak of. About two or three miles of the trail parallel the river, allowing the hiker to take a swim, fish, watch the whitewater kayakers or just take a break and enjoy the view of this unspoiled natural resource. There are also several nice campsites with firerings that hikers and boaters have made here between the trail and the river. I would recommend using one of these sites. I stayed the night at a site that I found on the side of Warwoman Road, a lightly used gravel road. This would be a good place to park your shuttle car. I turned around and walked back to the Chattooga. I didn't get in a hurry and it took me about seven hours each day. |
