Hike Summary: | Myakka River offers about 38 miles of backcountry loop hiking across a variety of habitat ranging from dense jungle like hammocks, to wide open savannahs. Water is provided by shallow hand pumped wells that must be boiled or treated before drinking. There are designated camp zones which you must use. The river itself has got to have one of the highest gator population densities on the FL central west coast. The park is one of the oldest and largest in Florida. This hike was from April 04 with hiking pal Chuck. |
