Hike Summary: | This was a two night hike with my middle daughter (age 12) in Juniper Prairie Wilderness in Ocala National Forest. We did this in mid December 2006. We started on a scenic spur trail called the Yearling Trail, named after the book by MK Rawlings. The FNST intersects. We headed south to Hidden Pond. Part of this area had just endured a bad burn henceforth it was not as scenic as normal. But it greens up fast when the rains come. Hidden Pond is a scenic camp area that I have been to 5-6 times. by myself, or with friends. It is a favorite area of mine although a year and a half ago it was the scene of a tragic and horrific crime. I have never seen a black bear here although I have seen plenty of bear scat at times. |
