Hike Summary: | This was my first and so far only trip to Big Cypress. I did an overnight hike in February 07. We were having drought conditions so the trail was very dry and good for hiking, although most of the groundwater sources were also bone dry. It was a beautiful trip and was sorry I only had one night to explore. I was down in Ft. Myers on business and decided to take one extra day for a short backpacking excursion. Apparently alot of folks hike this trail in the wet season which is more of a long continuous wade than a hike. Lots of lush vegetation, no signs of panther or bear though. I think all the wildlife were hanging around the few water holes that were not near this section of the trail. Although flat, parts of this trail were much more difficult than other sections of the Florida I have hiked. Picture of the trail shows why. |
