Directions: TO TRAILHEAD: US 19/US 23 N to Weaverville then US 25/US 70 W to Hot Springs, NC. Turn L onto River Rd., then L again onto Silvermine Rd. Pass under bridge and park in lot @ Nantahala Outdoor Center French Broad Outpost.

From Hot Springs, go east on U.S. 25/70 across the French Broad River Bridge. Immediately after crossing the bridge, turn left Turn left at the first intersection on River Road and follow the signs to the Silvermine Trailhead.

Road Conditions:
Hike Summary: 1. head N afer .1 mi join River Rd and continue downrive on road.
2. R onto Resevoir Rd. Follow to water tank, pick up Rountop ridge Trail (yellow blazes)
3. Swing NE, ascending Rountop Ridge (rerouted portion of AT).
4. L at T onto whte-blazed AT for .4 mi side hike to fire tower.
5. Rich Mtn (3,670 ft) Climb fire tower for SW views of Smokies from Mt. Cammerer to Mt Guyot. Return to #4 and continue S on AT.
6. Cross US 25 @ Tanyard Gap on AT overpass; walk briefly on FR 113 and turn L from gravel rd onto trail (white blazes).
7. AT joins dir road; in 40 ft stay R on road, following white blazes, in .3 mi turn R back onto trail leading through open meadows then into woods past a pond.
8. Rech Pump Gap and go straight @ 4 way, following vertiginous crest of Lovers Leap Ridge.
9. Short side trail to Lovers leap, an outcrop of hard quartzite (aged 500 million yrs) Continue .1 mi. on At above swirling Frendch Broad River and hamlet of Hot Springs, NC.
