| Hike Summary: | Carters Lake is a reservoir in northwestern Georgia that is fed by the Coosawattee River - which was the inspiration for James Dickey's novel and subsequent film Deliverance. The US Army Corps of Engineers owns and manages the lake which was completed in 1977. This short loop hike starts near the dam at Carter's Lake at the South Reregulation Park. The trail circles a beaver pond, and there are three bridges that vary between 20 - 210 feet in length. The hike also has a few wildlife-viewing platforms that look over the pond. You travel through a grassy and hardwood forest on this hike and it is suitable for all ages. |
