May you RIP my loyal friend whom I’ve carried for over ten years now:

K2 Sports announced today that its Dana Design backpack and travel bag division will relocate in November from Vashon Island, WA, and operate under Marmot Mountain, LLC. in Santa Rosa, CA.

K2 Inc., the parent company of K2 Sports, acquired Dana Design in 1996 and moved the brand from Bozeman, MT to Vashon Island in 2001. K2 Inc. acquired Marmot in 2004.

I’ve had a Dana since ’94. It’s sad to see them go. Mine has held up well over the years.

Say it ain’t so. I’ve had one since ’96 and frankly hadn’t noticed that the company was sold off. The thing is so durable, I haven’t had to call for a repair or replacement part. Said to hear. I remember when Dana’s founder (who I think is named Dana) was signing packs at Trail Days one year. I hope he made out well on it. He designed a great pack.
