Went and did a trip to the Congaree Swamp last year and wished I had a hammock there. If you have any suggestions, I’m up for them – especially for a decent hammock $100 or less.

stagefright, I hang from a Hennessey. Quality, room, price…It’s all there. the Expidition Asym is my prefered bag. I am 225,6’3″ and it is just enought to treat me well. It comes in at around $120 – $140 bucks and well worth it. Any bigger than me and you would need the Delux Asym. It’s about $180
I do a lot of hiking in North Georgia with the scouts and it fits just right. Most of the terrain goes straight up from the river so a hammock is nessary. driver

I always wondered about the hammocks. I know there are really light, but wasn’t sure if they kept you as warm. Curious to know.

I see these posts are a little dated, but I just recently got a hammock and WOW it is great. If you like hiking in and spending a day or two at a fixed location, a hammock is the way to go. You get to sit off the ground during the day. You can lay down during the day without climbing into a sleeping bag (which in the South is no fun in the middle of the day). I had the most relaxing trip I have ever had and it was largly because of my new hammock. I got the Eagle’s Nest Outfitters hammock and hanging system which came in around $80.

I recently bought the Hennessy Expedition Asym for just under $100. I’m going to try it in the back yard this weekend and then take it to the Foothills Trail next weekend. We are going to boat in to Laurel Fork Falls and backpack the short distance up to the top of the falls. We’ll basecamp there and hike the trail in both directions.

I have used one of these for a couple of years.

It only weighs 12 oz. and is really comfortable. Sometimes, you just need to get off your feet.
