| Hike Summary: | Available for both hiking and horseback riding, 3.25 mile Bighorn Creek Trail climbs steeply out of the Vail Valley for the first 0.5 mile, then more gradually through stands of aspen and pine. Bighorn Creek Trail continues on to pass beaver ponds, remains of old mining camps and Bighorn Falls. Neal mile 2, great views of Vail and Bighorn drainage are available. Around mile 3 the trail passes through open meadows and stands of sub-alpine fire and Englemann spruce, offering a chance to see the Grand Traverse, a continuous 12,000' ridge connection all the peaks and high drainages of the Gore Range.
